9×21 - Results of my reloading
March 8th, 2008 Posted in Time, Balls, munitioning, reloadingI have made some tests on the quality of my reloading and precisely I have valued two series of blows:
Test1
a first series has been obtained when there were drawing a cartridge each 8 produced by the pressing during a normal assemblage. For normal assemblage I mean the settlement purpose of the quantity dust each 20 produced blows, cases cleaned with anchor the old trigger and no selection on the real weight of the ball and on the characteristics of the case.
Test2
a second series has been instead obtained at the end of the assemblage of the first 90 blows (system presses already orderly), using well-considered cases (57.0 /-0.2 wheats), with court of blaze not too much decentralised (cases GFL), seat I trigger clean (before the cleaning there has taken place in fact the double passage that foresees before the cleaning the removal of the old trigger), balls selected in weight (124.0 /-0.1 wheats).

The effect “selection“ is more than highlit by the parametres calculated by the program TIME, to cite one of them for all, the standard deviation passes the already good 1 % of test1 to the perfect 0.35 % of test2. I would say more than significant.
This that has left me perplexed, is as for following:
During the proof I have noticed that systematically the first fired cartridge was giving place with speeds lower of the average, also 50. 60 mt/sec. The shot cadence was of about a blow each three seconds. So evident phenomenon that before firing ten blows of the test, I was overloading an additional cartridge with “preparation of the conditions”. Gathering information, above all on American sites, I have noticed that such a phenomenon turns out to be quite frequent. Also some ricaricatori of long experience it were already to knowledge and for some of them the phenomenon depends on the arrangement of the dust inside the case. In fact the dust does not fill completely the case and it is possible that she is not completely to shelter of the trigger to the loading of the weapon. After the first blow, because of the recoil, the dust goes accumulating instead in closeness of the bottom changing the behaviour of the blows to be followed.
Another thing, in support on sacks, I have obtained the pink one worse than that one that I obtain in the normal pulling to two hands (completely to 15m with the same munitioning). I have realised that:
- to fire in support is not simple as it appears
- the only system for the evaluation of the precision of the marriage weapon / munitions consists in a recoiled rest type Ransom Rest or Caldwell Hammr. Typology of system that I will adopt to short.

Does curiosity, because you do not make a version disposable "light" of the Vs. program Time with the alone sheet of calculation of the statistical values?

Safe, a little of months have passed from the last on-line chat and after having reached the perfect binomial between reloading and pistol, also thanks to the vs.consigli. I was wanting to know the real characteristics between a short and long OAL, that is to say: what changes with a ball TC with OAL 28,50 and 28,90; up to where is it possible to be pushed between least and maximum OAL?
I expect for all the explanations with the usual professionalism and competence as always.

Hello Vincenzo,
the reduction of the OAL, to equality of dose of propellant, determines generally an increase of the pressure of peak and an increase of the speed to the flight of the bullet. On the article: "Prove with Cheddite Granular S” find a graph that illustrates the results of our proof really with munitions in 9×21 to different OAL.
On calibres as 9×21, because of the increase pressorio, the reduction of the OAL must be limited to values not too much outside at the rule.
Like mechanical aspect, talking about semiautomatic weapons, the OAL is important for a regular passage of the cartridge with the flight of alimentation. Besides, excessive OAL values might be incompatible with the space in the loader or with the length of the chamber of cartridge: or rather missed cameratura because of the interference with the ruling throat (the ball touches prematurely the beginning of the ruling hampering the complete insertion of the cartridge).

Good morning,
I allow myself to give an advice to all those who, like me, are aroused passion of weapons, of reloadings and, as a result, they consume many cartridges in week.
I have started again a short time ago and cannot fire any more than 50-100 cartridges to training, because you will ask me for. Well all I advise to to apply a protection band to the elbow of the arm that fires, easily traceable in pharmacy at the ridiculous cost for 9,00 Euro.
This band lets mitigate in part the traumas of each single blow that in the long run can create annoying problems. Believe me the pain there it is, and is annoying, it misses the strength to hold a glass and as a result not at all pistol.
I am fighting two months, and the therapies cost … …

Hello Vincenzo, also I as I have noticed to you the same inconveniences of measurement of the first blow and of the pink one in support. In two cases unfortunately I have not managed to give me a plausible explanation. Personally in the first case I think that the temperature of the cane could influence, and I have solved also the problem firing one more blow.
According to the check each which time I use the position bench to regulate the metal aims of my pistol, to a verification following to two hands in feet and not in support (looked slow pulling) I always notice a little difference only on the verticality.
I must go acting then only on the rear sight, with the satisfactory result of the better pink one. The explanation might be searched in the different pressure of handle of the weapon between two conditions of pulling.

It is several that it is not read.
I have taken another Tanfoglio Limited Custom but in cal.40 S&W. Any table suggests an OAL of 28,80 in TC or FP and 29,20 in RN with balls 180g. Well asking around I have felt of OAL 30,10-30,50. But here will they go to the loader? and then for a question about pressure?
